Helene Ranada is a sought after mezzo soprano with a wide repertoire for the opera stage as well as for concerts. Among opera roles can be mentioned several Wagner roles, such as Erda, First and Second Norn and Magdalene. She has been working with many world known conductors, like: Seiji Ozawa, Esa Pekka Salonen, Donald Runnicles, Peter Schneider, Michael Schönwandt, Leif Segerstam, Richard Armstrong, Helmut Rilling, Lothar Zagrosek, Raymond Leppard and Thomas Dausgaard. During 2016 Helene is engaged by Odense Symphony Orchestra to sing Schwertleite in Valkyre in the Wagner Ring Cycle. She will also be singing St Matthew Passion and Stabat Mater by Dvorak.
After having completed her studies Ms Ranada was engaged at Wien Staatsoper (2000-2002) where she performed roles such as: Flosshilde in Das Rheingold, Schwertleite in Die Walküre, Erda in Siegfried, 1st Norn in Götterdämmerung, 1st Magd in Elektra, Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos, Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer, Annina in Die Rosenkavalier, Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Rychtárka in Jenufa and Eine Stimme von oben in Die frau ohne schatten.
After Vienna followed an engagement at Staatsoper Stuttgart where Ms Ranada sang several Wagner roles, among them Magdalene in Die Meistersinger. She also performed in roles like Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare, Messaggiera in L’Orfeo and Die Gräfin in Wildschütz.
During the season 2006/07 Ms Ranada performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in Mahlers Symphony No 2, in NHK-Hall in Tokyo in Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and at Kungliga Operan in Stockholm as Waltraute. During 2007/08 she sang Amneris in Aida at Malmö Opera, Carmen at Valdemarsviksoperan and Elias with Dresdner Philharmonic Orchestra.
Further to this she has performed at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow as Erda, at Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen as Florence Pike in Albert Herring, at the Oldenburgischen Staatstheater as Waltraute and 2nd Norn in Götterdämmerung, at the Edinburgh Festival as Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried, and in Schloss Rheinsberg as Arnalta in L’Incoronazione di Poppea. She has also been engaged at Kungliga Operan in Stockholm, among other roles as Olga in Eugen Onegin.
Among recent engagements can be mentioned the roles Schwertleite and Siegrune in Die Walküre at the Opera National de Paris.
Ms Ranada’s recital repertoire includes Beethoven’s Symphony 9, Bach’s St Matthew Passion, St John Passion, the Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat och several cantates, Händel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Krönungsmesse, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Elias and Roman’s Swedish Mass.
Helene Ranada studied at Malmö Musikhögskola and at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. 1999 she received the prestigious Grieg prize in the Queen Sonya International Singing Competition.
